Mother Koala Cuddles Joey Who Wouldn’t Leave Her Side Following Getting Hit by a Vehicle in Australia

The Australian koala duo, Phantom and Lizzy, — who took the World-wide-web by storm final week — are receiving healthier and stronger each day at the Australia Zoo Wildlife Hospital, according to their Facebook web page.

Phantom and Lizzy have switched places, with Lizzy now cuddling her six-month-old joey after successfully making it by means of surgery to repair her face trauma and a collapsed lung, according to the zoo.

Lizzy was hit by a vehicle last week in Brisbane, Australia and the photos of Phantom refusing to leave her side went viral. The tiny joey sat on Lizzy’s back — arms stretched wide — cuddling his injured mother.

The Australia Zoo did not straight away respond to ABC News’ request for comment.
