Torii Hunter suspended two games, has appealed

Minnesota Twins outfielder Torii Hunter has been suspended two games and fined for his outburst toward umpire Mark Ripperger on Wednesday, Important League Baseball announced.

Hunter has appealed the suspension, calling it a “small harsh,” and is in the lineup Friday for the Twins’ game against the Texas Rangers, batting second and playing ideal field.

“I didn’t count on two games,” Hunter said. “I got ejected, so I knew anything was going to come down.”

Hunter was thrown out of Wednesday night’s game for arguing a known as third strike late in the Twins’ loss to the Royals, became animated and needed to be briefly restrained in the aftermath. Hunter yanked off his elbow pad, shin guard and batting gloves and threw them toward the batter’s box soon after the ejection. He also ripped off his jersey and tossed that more than the first-base line ahead of retreating to the dugout.

He talked about his feelings immediately after the game and mentioned that even umpires have negative days.

“I am a passionate guy. This is my job, and I come to do my job nicely,” Hunter stated Friday. “And I expect you to do your job as properly.”

The Twins lost that game 7-two, ending a 1-five homestand that dropped them out of the American League Central lead.

Hunter mentioned he wasn’t certain when the appeal would be heard.

“I have no concept. I’ve never appealed. I’ve constantly accepted my punishment,” he mentioned. “I understand the punishment now, but I just consider it’s a tiny harsh ideal now.”
